Kevin Bacon is not a fan of the ‘normal’ lifestyle.
The 65-year-old ‘Footloose’ actor recalls the moment he dressed up as a regular guy in a desperate attempt to see what life was like for the non-Hollywood elite.
“I’m not complaining, but I have a face that’s pretty recognizable,” Bacon told Vanity Fair. “Putting on my hat and glasses only works to a certain extent.”
“I went to a special effects makeup artist, had a consultation and asked him to make a prosthetic disguise for me.”
The actor’s disguise consisted of a prosthetic nose, fake teeth and glasses.
Fully dressed, the actor headed to Los Angeles tourist attraction The Grove for an afternoon of shopping.
But soon he was confronted with the greatest of horrors: his disguise worked too well.
“Nobody recognized me. People kind of pushed past me, weren’t nice. Nobody said, ‘I love you,'” Bacon said.
“I had to stand in line to, I don’t know, buy a fucking coffee or something,” he groaned. “I thought, ‘This sucks. I want to be famous again.'”
Fame is nothing new for Bacon, who has been a household name since he made his big breakthrough in 1984 with the hit film “Footloose” at the age of 26.
The lead role quickly opened the doors for numerous TV series and films to follow.
His career was so prolific that he created a trivia game called “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon,” where the goal was to match an actor with Kevin Bacon in fewer than six roles.
And fame runs in the family.
The actor’s father, Edmund Bacon, was an accomplished urban planner who even appeared on the cover of TIME Magazine, inspiring Kevin to venture into Hollywood as well.
“As far as giving my parents credit, and of course I give them all the credit, my mom was very artistically inclined and really encouraged acting,” he told the outlet.
“They both encouraged as much creativity as possible in everything – dance, music, theatre, painting, sculpture, you name it.”
